John Cameron "Cam" Manser

Born ~ March 27, 1944
Date of Passing ~ July 3, 2024

John Cameron Manser, a long-time, proud citizen of Virden, Manitoba, Canada passed away on July 3, 2024, surrounded by his daughters and niece Jennifer Dawn Chapman.

Cam was born on March 27, 1944, in Virden, the youngest son of Dorothy (Goulter/Angel) and William T. Manser. He married Penny Graham in October 1965, and they had four daughters – Pam, Kim, Connie and Lorrie. Cam and Penny farmed alongside his father. Through the years he took on many other occupations - he was a jack of all trades – working and consulting in the oil field, welding, pumping and hauling water, or doing anything that needed to be done. Cam’s mottos were “Men who say it can’t be done should stay out of my way while I’m doing it,” and “You holler and we’ll haul’er.” Cam would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need.  Over the years, he was a volunteer firefighter, a member of the Virden Kinsmen Club, the Virden Legion, Ducks Unlimited and was instrumental in supporting many organizations in Virden, as well as Oak Lake Island Resort.  He was a proud supporter of the Virden Indoor Rodeo, the Virden Demolition Derby and the Firefighters Rodeo.  Cam was generous, sometimes to a fault and would go out of his way to help wherever he could.  He made a difference in the lives of many without expecting recognition. His impact was profound and lasting, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Cam loved to have a good time. He worked hard and played harder.  In his younger days he enjoyed playing football and hockey, hunting, socializing with friends, boating and taking his four girls water skiing at Oak Lake where he loved to spend time. He proudly took his party bus to the North 40 and various concerts. He enjoyed two-stepping with the ladies. Cam was an avid collector of movies, old tractors, and miniature models of CAT equipment.

John Cameron Manser will be remembered for his generosity, integrity, and love for family, friends, and his dogs Jack and Cash. Cam lived life to the fullest and never worried what others thought of him.  He did things his way. Others knew they could always count on “Cam Cash” if they needed help. His legacy of service will continue to inspire and uplift all who follow in his footsteps.

Cam is survived by his brother Herb (Karen) and their family; Penny and their daughters Pam Sweeney (Rick), Kim Manser, Connie Morrison (Brian) and Lorrie Manser; and his grandchildren, Amy, Jenna & Megan Morrison, Kylie Cameron Manser and Kiera Sweeney, who are forever grateful for his life and legacy. Cam’s spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were close to him.

Thank you to the staff at the Westman Nursing home who provided such wonderful care to Cam.  The staff were like family to him. Also, the regular visits by his niece, Jennifer Chapman, brightened his day and were greatly appreciated.

A memorial service to celebrate Cam’s life will be held at his farm in Virden, Manitoba on Saturday, July 27.  There will be an informal service at 3:00 pm followed by a BBQ and the sharing of stories in Cam’s honour. All are welcome to join us at Cam’s final farewell.  If attending, please bring a lawn chair and beverages.  The family kindly requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations can be made to the Virden Indoor Rodeo or Virden Demolition Derby in Cam’s honor.

Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near; still loved, still missed, and very dear.
